IPL Skin Rejuvenation and Agespot Treatment
As we age, the effects of sun exposure, wrinkles and acne (or other scars) combine to produce a decline in the appearance and texture of our skin. This can dramatically affect our self-esteem and confidence so by using a tailor made skin rejuvenation therapy, unique to you, we are able to dramatically improve the appearance of skin and even surpass your expectations using IPL laser rejuvenation, often in combination with other treatments including cosmeceuticals, microdermabrasion, botox injections and thread vein removal.
Laser rejuvenation is non invasive and improves the texture and tone of skin by stimulating the production of collagen. The resulting reduction in skin pore size thus improves the appearance of wrinkles and scars. Like the air in a balloon, increased collagen production works to ‘push’ out the wrinkles, scars and pores leaving skin that feels youthful.
The area to be treated with the laser is cooled by applying a cold pack and a cool gel to assist in conducting energy from the laser into the skin. When the IPL system/laser is fired you will feel a flicking sensation which lasts for a second or two. The area is cooled for a second time before the next area is treated. It’s usually recommended that more than one treatment is performed to achieve the best results and this will be discussed during your consultation.
Pigmented lesions can be successfully treated with IPL Laser to produce more youthful even skin tone. Treatment is particularly successful when combined with other therapies such as microdermabrasion and cosmeceutical products.
Skintuition use the Lumenis® IPL Photorejuvenation solution, providing visible improvement for pigmentation, age/sun spots, freckles, broken capillaries and overall skin appearance. The unique Optimal Pulse Technology (OPT™) gently and effectively removes skin imperfections, and stimulates collagen and the production of elastic fibres. As light from the IPL laser is rapidly absorbed by the melanin found within the area being treated, it heats up the melanin-rich cells causing their destruction. The body then naturally removes all damaged cells, resulting in a more even tone and texture. The procedure is fast and, with no downtime, is favoured by Hollywood A listers and busy professionals. Of course not all dark skin lesions are to be treated this way and during your no obligation consultation, we will determine the type of lesion or pigmentation to be treated and advise if treatment can be conducted safely. Any noteworthy lesions of concern would be highlighted and then excluded from the treatment plan, requiring specialist referral.

Port-Wine Stain Removal
These are reddish birthmarks caused by an over-abundance of blood vessels in the skin. Their colour can range from pale pink to dark purple and although they are located anywhere on the body they are most commonly located on the neck, the face, the chest or the shoulders. Varying in size, the stains can become darker and larger as the person grows older and they do not disappear without treatment.
Skintuition uses a revolutionary NdYAG laser system to successfully treat these birthmarks, using laser light to penetrate the skin very deeply in order to target the red pigment and blood vessels causing the port-wine stains. The NdYAG laser light is able to eradicate the tissue causing the discoloration without causing any damage to the surrounding skin. This precise and technical treatment can take several sessions to achieve the desired results and maintenance treatments are sometimes necessary to remain confident and free from discoloured skin, as port-wine stains can have the tendency to reappear.
Many patients also enjoy the benefits of genuine ‘Dermaroller’, the natural Skin Regeneration and Scar Repair Therapy. Skintuition’s Claire Foley is a Genuine Dermaroller Practitioner with experience in achieving the best possible results.
A course of between 3-6 treatments is optimal to help improve sun damage, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and treat acne scars and stretch marks resulting in a smoother complexion and skin with improved tone and texture.
After a Genuine Dermaroller™ treatment, the body naturally regenerates and repairs the skin, targeting the dermis; the area below the skin’s surface. As new collagen and elastin are formed, new skin cells are generated and blood supply is improved. It can take up to 4-6 weeks before visible signs of regeneration are noticeable and the process continues over some months, providing a subtle and long lasting enhancement.
Scar Repair Therapy
Dermaroller™ treatments are often used in conjunction with Microdermabrasion and IPL (laser therapy) to produce great results and Genuine Dermaroller can increase the volume of elastic tissue in skin by up to 200% each time the therapy is used. Requiring minimal down time of 24 hours, it’s a non aggressive treatment which is minimally invasive. Each procedure includes the Genuine Dermaroller™ therapy in addition to a cream (to soothe the skin) and a UVA/UVB sunscreen with SPF 50 for use immediately after your treatment and in the following days. Hollywood ‘A Listers’ enjoy Genuine Dermaroller as it provides the benefits of a chemical peel or Fraxel laser but without the down time.
Acne and Acne Scarring
Over 80% of the population aged 14-30 are affected by acne (the disorder of the skin’s sebaceous glands). 25% of those affected in their teens go on to develop permanent scars and if left untreated, scarring can cause considerable psychological, social and work-related issues.
Active acne is diagnosed by the presence of papules or pustules, caused by an infection of the skin by Propionibacterium Acnes bacteria. The bacteria access all the epidermal appendages, including the sebaceous glands, sweat glands and hair follicles, and irritate the sebaceous glands causing hypertrophy (enlargement). The result is over-production of sebum which builds up under the skin.
Treatments with limited success involve the use of antibiotics in the long term or isotretinoin (retinoic acid) administration, with its severe side-effects. However, IPL (lazer therapy) light based treatments are more successful and clinical trials demonstrate that they provide a viable non-invasive, non-prescription alternative.
The M22 IPL system is world-renowned at treating the multiple aspects of acne with amazing results. Striking the right balance between efficacy and patient comfort, it releases the wide spectrum of light colours needed to destroy the bacteria throughout the skin in a single pulse, and thus controls sebaceous activity. Successful treatment often combines the use of medical microdermabrasion prior to IPL treatment to exfoliate the dead skin cells which, together with the sebum, block the pores and cause the pustules. This treatment plan also helps the light penetrate the skin.
A course of three to six IPL treatments will achieve significant results improving the appearance and behavior of the skin.
Dermaroller™ treatments are also often used in conjunction with IPL and microdermabrasion to produce great results and increase the volume of elastic tissue in skin by up to 200% each time. Dermaroller is a non aggressive treatment which is minimally invasive, requiring down time of only 24 hours and producing results that improve over a period of months after the treatment.
Rosacea/Acne Rosacea/Sebhorreic Dermatitis
Rosacea gives the cheeks and nose a flushed appearance and as the condition progresses, tiny blood vessels and pimples begin to appear on and around the affected area. Early diagnosis and treatment can stop the progress of the condition and we typically aim to significantly lessen the appearance of rosacea with 2-3 procedures over a 4-6 month period.
The main areas of treatment target facial redness, papules, pustules and flushing so when you attend Skintuition for a consultation, we will examine your unique skin condition and recommend a tailored treatment plan using one or more of the therapies available to treat rosacea. This will be guided principally by what most affects you about your condition.
IPL is typically best suited to facial redness, and papules and pustules whereas the NdYAG is better suited to flushing symptoms. Most patients are troubled by both symptoms so here, an alternating course of both treatments is often the best option in order to make the best progress in the progamme of treatment.
